Who is the crazy baker?

Hello and thank you for checking out my little world of decorated cookies, cakes and cupcakes. My name is Margaret and I started Edible Canvas Creations back in 2011 when people became interested in my different desserts. I'm self taught and still learning. I have the privilege of being able to stay at home and bake my little heart out. I've got a great husband of 30 years and an 18-year old soon-to-be-man son. I'm a follower of Jesus and have a million and one hobbies. But enough about me. Let me tell you about my cookies, cakes and cupcakes.

Decorated Cookies

Who is the crazy baker?

  • First, let's talk cookies. What good is a pretty decorated cookie if it doesn’t taste good?! So I experimented with seven different recipes before I settled on my current recipe, which is the bomb! My cookies are 3/8" thick. I bake them so they are soft, versus crisp and brown. My icing is glaze, not royal icing, which can dry hard and crumbly. My glaze stays soft to the bite.
  • My average cookie price $36 per dozen, with some cookies costing more (or occasionally less), depending on the amount of decorating, number of colors and/or size of the cookie. Minimum order is 1 dozen.  You do not have to order the same design for the entire dozen.
  • There are no price reductions for large cookie orders. I'm a one-person shop so my time is the same per cookie, whether I decorate 1 or 100.
  • Cookie delivery options: I do ship cookies. You pay shipping cost plus a buck or two to cover packing material. If I ship cookies for you, I will send you a photo of the cookies before shipment. I will also send you the tracking number after they are shipped. I ship USPS flat rate.
  • Shipped Cookies: Once cookies are out of my hands, I can no longer be responsible for their condition upon arrival.
  • Cookie delivery is free if you can meet me at one of the following locations:
    • Dublin - Walgreens at Glick Road/745
    • Powell - CVS at Seldom Seen Rd/Sawmill Parkway
    • Lewis Center – Kroger on Lewis Center and 23
    • Marysville, at the Lowes on 36.
    • Anywhere in Delaware or Ostrander.
    • $10 charge to meet at Polaris Mall area and $15 charge to go to downtown Columbus.
  • Your acceptance of the delivery confirms that you are accepting their condition. Once cookies are out of my hands, I can no longer be responsible for their condition upon arrival.   If you have special needs you can contact me about delivery.
  • Cookie Date Reservations: A couple weeks or even months notice is greatly appreciated for booking your cookie order but if I can fit you in on short notice I will.
  • Cookie Payment:  I accept payment of cash, personal check, Venmo, CASH app, Apple Pay or PayPal. In order to secure your order, I need to receive ½ of the total payment (full payment for mail order). When that is received I will put your order on my calendar. I then request the remainder of the payment upon delivery.
  • Cookie Order Cancellation:  You forfeit your deposit if you cancel your order within a week or less of the due date. I can only take so many orders in a week and when you secure your date on my cookie calendar, I may end up turning down other orders, which is why I reserve the right to keep the deposit for some compensation for potential lost business. If you cancel with more than a week before your order is due, I will refund your deposit.
  • Cookie Packaging: Cookies are individually heat-sealed in clear plastic bags and my label is affixed on the back, along with the ingredients list. They are packaged in a white bakery box filled with colorful tissue paper, tied with a ribbon or twine, if local.
  • If your cookies are shipped, they are heat-sealed in clear plastic bags with cardboard backing to support the cookie in shipping. Cookies are then surrounded in packing material and shipped in a USPS flat rate box. I’ve had great success with cookies arriving in stellar condition. I also take a photo of all shipped cookies and send it to you prior to shipping.
  • Once cookies are in the mail, I am no longer responsible for their condition or arrival. I do everything possible on my end to make sure they are packaged to not break and are sent in plenty of time for their needed arrival date. That is all I can control.
  • I can supply cookies, unwrapped on a cardboard flat, which allows you to then put them on your own platters for serving.
  • Cookie Storage: You can refrigerate my cookies in their individual packages but my cookies are best eaten within a week of delivery at room temperature. My experience with freezing my glazed cookies in my deep chest freezer for more than a month (but less than 3) at 0F has yielded excellent results. But once my cookies are out of my possession and in my customer's hands, I can't be 100% sure of how the cookies will be, once frozen and thawed. There can be problems if the cookies are frozen, thawed and then perhaps refrozen, or thawed incorrectly, or frozen but in a freezer that is kept above 0F, or frozen for too long. Some of the gals who use glaze, like myself (versus royal icing) have said some of their cookies' glaze blotches when frozen and then thawed. I have not had this happen to me, but I can't say I'm 100% confident it won't happen. If the cookies are frozen properly and thawed properly by thawing them in the original heat-sealed plastic bag, unopened and brought completely to room temperature before opening, success is probably high. Otherwise, there can be condensation. It's "Caveat Emptor" for freezing cookies.
  • Cookie Ingredients: flour, butter, white sugar, egg, vanilla & almond extract (real and imitation), baking powder, salt, powdered sugar, corn syrup, butter extract, meringue powder and Americolor Gel Food Colorings. Does not contain nuts. Almond extract does not contain nut proteins. Size varies: 1-3 oz
  • Fondant Ingredients: marshmallows, glycerin, powdered sugar, vanilla, and almond extract.
  • Nuts: There are no nuts in my cookies. But I do store nuts in my kitchen and I have been known to eat the occasional pb&j sandwich. Also, I have almond extract in my cookies. It varies between artificial and natural. The extracts contain no nut proteins.

Cakes/Cupcakes

Who is the crazy baker?

Cakes/Cupcakes

  • Now let's talk cakes and cupcakes.  If you are looking for a traditional kind of cake, like a flat 1/4 sheet cake with roses and a border, I'm afraid you will be disappointed. My passion with cake decorating is to create cakes that are novel, unusual or custom designed. You want your cake painted to look like watercolors, or shiny like a mirror glaze, or topped with chocolate doodads and thingamabobs, I'm your gal! Unicorns? I'm hip. Cake that looks like a wheel of cheese or full of different kinds of flowers...sign me up!   So if you have a suggestion please let me know. I'm happy to try new flavors, designs and decorations. And if it's just not my thing or I can't do it, I'll let you know.  (I am not available for weddings and do not provide sheet cakes)
  • I've perfected my old stand-by recipes of vanilla and chocolate cake (if you are interested in alternative flavors of cake, just ask). My cakes/cupcakes are moist and flavorful with a great crumb. My vanilla cake is full of vanilla flavor, not just yellow in color, and my chocolate cake tastes like chocolate, even if you were blindfolded when tasting it. I have a great fudge frosting or vanilla buttercream as well. You will not be disappointed!
  • Aside from the normal cake filling of frosting, fruit/jam/ganache/pastry cream fillings are also possible for cakes and cupcakes for additional cost. Chocolate or white ganache is very pricey (it is made out of pure chocolate and heavy cream) but decedent and lucious. A raspberry jam filling can add just the right amount of acid to cut the sweetness of buttercream or fudge frosting. And pastry cream filling is what makes a Boston Cream Pie (cake) so delicious. And there are so many more options for fillings. Let your imagination run wild.
  • Cakes are priced per serving and by decoration. Cupcakes are priced by the dozen.
  • Pricing is also based on the type of cake/cupcake (cake - round, square or novelty, size), filling/frosting/decoration. Additional costs can include upgraded fillings, decoration, cake shape, amount of time to create the cake/cupcakes due to complexity of design or decoration.
  • There is additional cost for additional decoration toppers. This refers to anything that goes on the top of the cake that is sculpted or created separately from the cake.
  • Cupcakes: $25 for one dozen cupcakes begins with my basic vanilla or chocolate cupcake with piped American buttercream frosting/sprinkles. The cost increases beyond that.
  • Cake/Cupcake payment: If the total cost of your order is $50 or less, I require the entire amount before I can put you on my calendar. For cakes/cupcakes more than $50, I request a deposit of 1/2 total cost necessary to save the date. Once the payment is received, you will be added to my calendar. I will hold your place for 24 hours in order to receive payment via check, PayPal, Venmo, CASH app or Apple Pay. The remainder of the payment is due a week before the cake is due.
  • Cake Date Reservations: A couple weeks or even months notice is greatly appreciated for booking your order but if I can fit you in on short notice I will.
  • Limited free delivery area of Delaware/Ostrander. Additional charge for delivery outside this area.
  • Delivery only in the metro Columbus, Sunbury, Marysville area. Delivery charge for these areas.
  • Your acceptance of the delivery confirms that you are accepting the cake/cupcakes condition. Once they are out of my hands, I can no longer be responsible for their condition.   If you have special needs you can contact me about delivery.
  • No price reductions for large orders.
  • No refunds if the order is cancelled.
  • I'm not able to provide wedding cakes at this point.
  • The photos on this site of my cakes and cupcakes are just a small sampling of what I can provide. If you have a suggestion, please feel free to inquire.
  • Cake Storage: My cakes, fillings and frostings are stable and do not need refrigerated. If that changes for your order, I will let you know. Obviously keeping the cake/cupcakes as air tight as possible will help them stay fresh beyond the original delivery date.
